Grateful greetings this November! It is hard to believe that the season is upon us! This month's core value is gratitude and students are hearing everyday ways that they can show gratitude towards others via the announcements. There are so many ways that we can show our gratitude, encourage your child to do so and compliment them when they do!
If you hear your Kindergartener saying "Be Brave, Be Bold, A teacher must be told!", then they have listened to the story of Howard B. Wigglebottom Learns About Bullies. Howard doesn't know what to do when he is faced with the Snorton twins, but a little voice inside of him keeps telling him that he needs to tell someone about their bullying problem! Soon, Howard realizes that the only way he can feel safe at school is if he lets an adult know about those Snorton twins and the bullying they've been up to. "Be Brave, Be Bold, A teacher must be told!"
First graders might be mentioning invisible buckets. What are they? Well everyone has one! It's our bucket that is filled day in and day out when people are kind to us and when we are kind to others. Sometimes there can be bucket dippers, people who are mean, sometimes bullies. First grade is learning all about the difference between bucket fillers and bucket dippers with the book "Have You Filled a Bucket Today?" by Carol McCloud. Ask your first grader if they've filled a bucket today!
Second graders are BULLY BUSTERS! They've been busy coming up with ways to stop bullying at school. They have come up with some great ideas! Tell a trusted adult, tell the bully to stop, and treat others as you would like to be treated, are just a few of the wonderful ways that they've come up with to put an end to bullying. Look for their artwork next to the primary computer lab and visit with your second grader about ways that they can put an end to bullying!
