Seasons greetings! December is a short month for us with just 15 school days. Even though our time is short, there is still much going on in these three weeks.
Our monthly virtue is HONESTY. Each day during announcements, K-5 students are hearing all about the importance of honesty and how it is the best policy. It's not always easy, but sometimes it can even help us from getting into more trouble if we are honest about our actions and take responsibility for them.
Since it is December and the season of giving, our focus in guidance is just that, giving from the heart. All K-2 students are listening/watching the animated story of Howard B. Wigglebottom and the Power of Giving: A Christmas Story. In this story, Howard learns an important lesson on the difference between wanting and needing and that giving gifts from the heart bring much more joy than just toys.
Kindergarteners are brainstorming gifts they can give to their classmates that money can't buy and sharing ideas of kindness such as sharing, taking turns, being polite, and playing games with one another.
First graders have come up with some great ideas as well. They have lots of gifts from the heart that they feel are important. Some of my favorite ideas so far have been love, friendship, hugs, and compliments!
Second graders are describing why they like to give gifts from the heart.
It truly is about the joy of giving and it's a joy to watch the students at Lockwood School give to one another on a daily basis. They give the gift of friendship and kindness everyday without even realizing it. Here's to all the wonderful gifts each of our students possess and to the joy of giving this holiday season.
Have a safe and restful holiday and I look forward to seeing everyone back in the New Year!
